A Visit to River Rock Casino ROER members visited River Rock Casino and here's what
we saw. A huge, ugly parking garage set in the beautiful hills of Alexander Valley shocked the senses. Then came the big,
green, ugly tent that is the casino. Upon entering the casino our senses were again assalted by the stink of cigarrettes.
Our environmental laws don't matter on Indian land, so people can and do smoke inside the casino. It was also surprisng
to find that a large percentage of gamblers were being bussed in from San Francisco. From these observations
some assumptions can be made: 1. The Graton Rancheria will be in competition with River Rock and will also bus
gamblers in from San Francisco. Since Rohnert Park is closer to San Francisco than Alexander Valley, it can be assumed that
many busses will come to Rohnert Park. It is estimated that there will be 100 daily bus trips in and out of the area. 2. People bussed in to gamble will not be shopping at the nearby stores or bringing dollars into the community. 3. Residents of Rohnert Park and the surrounding communities will not shop at the stores in and around the casino because
of the 27,000 car trips and 100 bus trips crawling in and out of the area, thus further lowering tax revenue and endangering
businesses and jobs.
